With seven months to go, 60% of the companies expected at this edition have already confirmed their participation
The third edition of the Internet of Things Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC) which will take place on 3-5 October as part of Barcelona Industry Week is expecting significant growth. The leading global event on industrial IoT will bring together top companies and international experts in the industrial internet. Over 220 companies and 250 speakers will showcase and discuss the latest new products and applications of this disruptive technology that is already increasing production through automated processes and will change the business models in many industries.
With the support of some of the top international associations in the sector, such as the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), Industrie 4.0, and the Industrial Valuechain Initiative (IV-I), IOTSWC is shaping an edition defined by growth. This year the event is taking over two halls instead of one at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue, and expects to increase the number of its exhibitors by almost 30%. It is the biggest event of its kind and the only one that combines exhibition space, knowledge transfer, testbeds and professional networking at the highest level.
With seven months still to go before the event, some 60% of the expected companies have already confirmed they will be taking part in IOTSWC including the international headquarters of firms such as Accenture Digital, Intel, Telit, Huawei, Dell Technologies, IoT Works-HCL Technologies, Vodafone, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Kaspersky, Optimal Plus, National Instruments and Fiware.
The show will also feature information technology companies, software platform developers, security firms, service providers, telecom companies, industrial automation firms, hardware manufacturers, technology and R&D centres, business incubators and associations and organisations involved in the IoT, as well as international delegations and government representatives from different countries.
To complement the exhibition area, IOTSWC will once again be opening the testbeds area for live demonstrations to show the operation of more than a dozen industrial internet applications developed by leading companies. These testbeds explore untested technologies or combinations of other technologies with the aim of creating products and services along with processes capable of generating new international standards, ideas and R&D opportunities and with new business models.

To facilitate access to and an understanding of the most innovative IoT solutions for local SMEs and international companies attending the event, guided tours are being organised by the show led by experts in the subject matter.
Congress: Applied Knowledge
During three intensive days, more than a hundred sessions will take place including keynote conferences, round tables, panels of experts, presentations of success stories, and interviews, involving some 250 internationally-renowned speakers.
Some of the top names already confirmed include Joseph Paradiso, Professor in Media Arts and Sciences at the MIT Media Lab, and Joe Spagnoletti, the president of Spagnoletti Net and former SVP and Chief Information Officer of the Campbell Soup Company, who will be talking about how humans will connect on the Internet of Things and formulas for involving all the members of a company in introducing this technology, respectively.
This edition focus on the use of IoT solutions in six specific sectors: manufacturing; energy and utilities; connected transport; building & infrastructures; healthcare; and open industry. However, other cross-cutting issues that are in any way connected with the field of IoT will also be addressed, such as artificial intelligence, big data, digital transformation, cloud computing, robotics, sensors, security, smart devices, standards, new business models, data storage and predictive analytics, amongst others.
A panel of experts, including specialists in technology and industry, corporate executives and world-renowned entities in the IoT ecosystem, will decide on which speakers to invite to the congress as well as the theme of the topics to be discussed, with the aim of showcasing the latest trends and focusing on the applications of most importance to the selected sectors.
Innovation and business
IOTSWC will recognise the most innovative and impactful projects developed over the year with the IOT Solutions Awards. A total of seven awards will be presented: one for each of the tracks of the congress programme (manufacturing; energy and utilities; connected transport; building & infrastructures; healthcare; and open industry) and a final award for the best testbed at the show.
IOTSWC will also be hosting a Brokerage Event to promote networking among professionals from different industrial sectors through business meetings to stimulate knowledge transfer, R&D and the search for suppliers or business partners. A Hackathon with over 250 students from a dozen universities will also take place, being tasked with providing IoT solutions to various challenges.
At the same time, a series of side events organised by sponsors, exhibitors, brand ambassadors and other partners will be taking place at IOTSWC.
Barcelona Industry 4.0 Week
The IoT Solutions World Congress is part of Barcelona Industry 4.0 Week, one of the world’s biggest trade fair platforms for industry in terms of both the commercial side and the knowledge it generates, which takes place on 1-6 October 2017 at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via exhibition centre.
